Bernie Sanders to hold town hall meeting in Portland

bernieBernie Sanders, the formerly independent U.S. Senator from Vermont who is running for the Democratic nomination for President will be the first announced 2016 presidential candidate to visit the state of Maine.

Sanders will be holding a town meeting on Monday, July 6th at the Ocean Gateway in Portland. According to an event page on the candidate’s website, Sanders plans to dicuss how to “Get big money out of politics,” “Deal with obscene wealth and income inequality,” “Combat climate change,” and “Make college education affordable,” all hallmarks of Sanders’ progressive, populist campaign.

Although Maine is not an early primary state, Sanders may have chosen to visit Portland because the city’s media market also covers parts of New Hampshire.

A CNN/WMUR poll conducted earlier this week in the Granite State by the University of New Hampshire found Sanders in a statistical tie with Hillary Clinton, the presumed frontrunner for the Democratic nomination – a stunning result given Clinton’s much greater national name recognition and organizational and fundraising strength.

More information about the event and an RSVP form are available at Sanders’ website.
